OUR GARDEN
An Illustrated Journey into the Heart of the National Garden of Athens
By Athina Deligianni
Published by Anavasi Publications
Book Presentation
The book “Our Garden” (Ο Κήπος μας) by Athina Deligianni is a contemporary illustrated approach to the National Garden, one of the most distinctive public spaces in Athens.
The book treats the Garden as the central protagonist, a place where nature, the child’s gaze, and the memory of the city meet. The narrative is organized as a tour, where each illustration acts as a station in a conceptual mapping of the space. The reader is invited to recognize real-life spots, pathways, and small scenes. They see on paper what they will encounter on their actual walk.
The book proposes a different reading relationship: it does not conclude with the closing of the last page, but continues on the actual walk in the Garden. The child can match the drawn image with the existing reality and form their own personal map—a process that enhances observation, sense of place, and understanding of the urban environment. The city becomes less abstract and more habitable through imagination.
As an edition, the book also functions as a fine art book. The delicate line of the drawing, the aesthetic of the handmade, and the careful printing place it within the realm of artistic publishing, making it a book that appeals not only to children but also to adults.
In a period when our relationship with the city seeks new ways of assigning meaning, “Our Garden” offers a calm, sensitive look at the public space, reminding us that reality can become a field of imagination, as long as one stops and looks at it.
Note from the Creator
“Our Garden is an illustrated children’s book, but also a small art object.
My starting point was the National Garden — a place full of history, memory, and emotion, a space that hosted my childhood journeys.
I wanted to create a book that connects the child to the real city they live in, to show that imagination belongs not only to fairy tales, but also to the everyday places we walk through without truly looking at them.”

The Creator
Athina Deligianni is a visual artist, designer, and graphic artist. Born in 1987, she is of French-Greek descent. She studied at the School of Fine Arts in France, where she shaped her personal artistic style.
For ten years, she has co-published the magazine Kennedy, and through her creative studio Delyannis, she designs objects and furniture that combine art with design.
Her work draws inspiration from nature, architecture, and the urban landscape of Athens, constantly exploring the relationship between memory, space, and imagination.
“Our Garden” is her personal tribute to the National Garden—a place of discovery and adventure for children, but also a source of poetry for those adults who still maintain a child’s gaze.
